In college, you meet many types of people. Some individuals walk into your life for days, while others stay forever and become your best friend. This summer while I was interning in the press room for Illinois 4-H at the Illinois State Fair, I met a girl who has become my best friend. Ellen and I have become inseparable and known to many individuals as ‘those girls who make videos’.
While working together in the press room, we took a short break. During this time we decided it would be fun to create a video of us. We put the camera on a tripod and started talking as if we were on a talk show. The impromptu talk show became something we had a lot of fun with and eventually turned into “The Abby & Ellen Show”. We created much video footage during the seven days in the press room, but those are not the only videos we have created.
As I returned to my internship on campus in Champaign, I showed the videos to some co-workers in the office. As Ellen and I thought the videos were just a fun way to spend our break, an individual could see potential with our show. Since August, we have created many more videos, some of these being fun and others are serious. Somewhere between recording and showing individuals our videos, it was mentioned to us that we could actually use our talent and hobby to feature various parts of campus life.
As students in the College of Agricultural, Consumer and Environmental Sciences (ACES), we will soon be creating videos to help incoming or prospective students get a feel for what a day at college is like. The video series will be very excited for you, as interested students, because Ellen and I have taken many different routes, and have experienced college in different ways. Tomorrow, Ellen and I are recording our first video for this project! Be on the lookout for The Abby & Ellen Show soon.
College has given me many opportunities, including a chance to do something I never thought I would. As you prepare for college, remember the opportunities are endless.
